Blue Marble Ice Cream

It is almost summer and that means ice cream. I recently took my two boys to Blue Marble located at 196 Court Street. Blue Marble can boast about their ingredients, organic grass fed dairy and organic sugar. Their ice cream is made to order each week and you can taste the quality. My seven year old got strawberry, which is not too sweet. My three year old and I got the soft serve which is a new product. This is hands down the best soft serve ice cream I have ever had! I recommend vanilla, but the chocolate was pretty delicious as well. Organic, rich, creamy and yummy. We will be enjoying it all summer.

Win a $10,000 living room makeover from Room and Board

Not to be a big ol' shill, but I love Room and Board. Most of my living room is occupied by a huge RandB sectional (nicknamed "The Sleepinator"). It's timeless and indestructible and super comfortable. I'm sitting in a Room & Board chair as I type this. If my family can't destroy this furniture, no one can.

So while I wish I could enter this contest, I'd feel pretty silly sending in pics of my RandB living room and asking for a makeover. But if you're not in love with your space, now is your chance to score some stuff.

Funds will support PortSide programming this summer and more. We are getting a permit to be in Atlantic Basin from July 1 to Aug 24, and we have been invited to bring the Mary A. Whalen to some other piers.

Offering free programming in Atlantic Basin costs us.  In addition to the cost of the programs themselves, our permit for Atlantic Basin requires that we get new additional types of insurance (cost about $8,000) and security cameras and recording devices (costs being assessed).

PortSide NewYork is a young, innovative 501(c)3 organization.  PortSide was launched in 2005 to engage with a major movement of our time, the re-planning of NYC's waterfront.  Our mission is to create better use of what we call the BlueSpace, the water itself.

We also revitalize our home community, the peninsula of Red Hook, Brooklyn, with waterfront-themed programs.

Last year, PortSide was sole-sourced by New York City's Economic Development Corporation (the EDC) to create a maritime hub and cultural center in Atlantic Basin, Brooklyn.

Our chief ambassador is a 172' repurposed coastal oil tanker the Mary A. Whalen. She serves both as our office and as a mobile cultural platform.

If you'd like her to visit your community, please email us at portsidenewyork@gmail.com.

Renegade Crafts

This past weekend the Renegade Craft Fair was held at McCarren Park in Williamsburg. Hundreds of local craftspeople came together to show off their wares over the beautiful weekend. So we biked on up to see what it was all about. The park was packed with people parousing the stands and italian ice vendors squeezed through the windinng paths selling their sweet treats to hot shoppers. we saw tons of awesome things but here are a few of our favorites...

Smoke and Daggers' jewelry for the hardened romantic. Somewhat masculin but beautifully made jewelry by two awesome guys. Their materials include used bullet shells, keys, electronics parts, and found metals, adorned with hand sculpted pieces and precious gems. check them out here:

amazinging crafted hand bound books and paper goods from May Day Studio, made me feel like an amateur binder, but inspired me to get better! owning one of these books is like owning a piece of art that you get to enhance by filling its pages. styles range from the traditional cloth covered hard bound book to coptic stitched books with bingo card covers. check them out here:

the folks at Seltzer Goods sure do know how to crack me up. their cutely illustrated and hilariously captioned greeting cards are sure to get you laughing too. get one for your favorite pal here...

Tugboat Printshops beautiful blockprints would be a lovely addition to any art collection. The intricately carved blocks they had on display were just as beautiful as the artwork for sale. beautiful ocean scenes and sea creatures you'd love to hang on your walls.
