New Art Installation on Bergen.

The huge raised bed on Bergen and Smith has been transformed yet again. This time displaying a pole, inspired by "Liberty Pole", which was s ship's mast planted in the ground during the Revolutionary War as a symbol of protest. It was also inspired by Walt Whitman's poem "The Centenarian's Story". The piece, by Sasha Chavchavadze, is called "Battle Pass-Revolution II". It was getting dark when we took these pictures so they are a little hard to read. Here are the quotes on the sides. "Do you hear the clank of the muskets?", "The years recede", and "In the midst of you". Check it out for yourself though. It's pretty cool.

Urban Art Program in Red Hook

The Urban Art Program is a citywide program meant to beautify and invigorate New York streets with temporary art installations. Red Hook is one area they are looking to engage. Specifically the median at 9th Street and Hamilton Avenue. According to an email sent out by the Department of Transportation (see more of that below) they are "interested in enhancing the pedestrian environment at this important crossing location and..pursuing several types of improvements."

The NYCDOT is also looking for artists and community organizations that would be interested in this program. It's a great opportunity for contributors and a great contribution to the neighborhood
