YMCA Summer Deal.

The Dodge YMCA is promoting a summer deal right now.  The basics are join for the summer, which is now until September 2nd, and there is a flat fee of $200 for individuals and $275 for families.  No joiner's fee or monthly fees are added onto that, although you'll have to ask about whether you automatically get charged if you don't cancel membership with advance notice before September if you don't want to continue.  It's a really good deal actually, a lot less than the usual membership fees.  If you've wanted to check it out now is the time.

Name That Lawn Contest.

Here's a fun contest being put on by Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy! They're asking folks to name a lawn on Pier 6.  It doesn't say what you'll win but just having a lawn named after your idea seems pretty cool in itself.  (There will no doubt be some sort of prize as well).  You have until March 20th to think of a name.  For more info visit their site.

Winter Wonderland at YMCA!

Have kids and looking for something to do tomorrow..or today depending on when you're reading this?  The Dodge YMCA on Atlantic Ave is having an event from 11am-12:30pm that's open to the public.  It's called Winter Wonderland and should be fun.  Lots of people show up to these events and the kids (mostly babies) really enjoy it.  They'll "offer a light breakfast, winter-themed activities and games, our photo booth, face painting, goodie bags, and much more".  Definitely worth checking out.

Trader Joe's New Look.

The Trader Joe's on Atlantic and Court has always had one big flaw.  Lines!!! The line was always so long at any given point and the main problem with it was that it made it really hard to look down the last aisle, with the cereal and snacks.  The two line set up was spilling into that aisle making it possible for only one cart at a time to walk through.  They have solved that problem!  They now have a 3 line set up and have added registers and the last aisle is wider and has a divider.  We went on a weekend and as packed as the store was the lines moved quickly.  Good solution.  If the waiting has kept you away from TJ's you should give it another shot. 

Table 87 on Atlantic

Out with the old in with the new...sort of.  I guess there's nothing new about an Italian restaurant in this neighborhood, but we've caught wind that that's what's going to open up at 87 Atlantic Avenue.  It'll be called Table 87 and, as you may or may not be able to tell from our photo, it still needs a lot of work inside.  The space used to be Dallas Jones BBQ, which had really good food and we're sad to see that place go, especially since we could use more BBQ in that area.  The space itself is pretty small and wasn't very welcoming for dine-in customers, though.  Hopefully Table 87 will change that.  We'll see when renovation have finished.
