Spring is coming! Bring on the Ice Cream!

Okay, so we have good news and we have bad news and we have some more good news after that. The good news is spring seems to be well on it's way. Highs are set to be in the 60's later this week and, although we don't want to jinx anything, it seems we have evaded a harsh winter and can start to look forward to springtime! Now here's a bit of bad news. We heard that Blue Marble was giving away free ice cream last weekend but we heard a day too late. (Booo.) On Saturday they gave away 50 mini marbles and soft serves. Now back to some good news. This giveaway was to celebrate their reopening for the season!!! So, you can now head over to Blue Marble, at 196 Court Street, and get a high quality delicious scoop or two.

Lost and Found

We've come across a couple of really cute posters within the last few weeks and we wanted to share them with you. One (seen above) was posted outside of PS 29 and it's asking for your help to find a lost baby blue bear blanket that was lost last month at the school yard. Call that number listed if you know anything. The next poster (below) we saw in Blue Marble's window on Court Street. Apparently the found a baby tooth on their counter? We weren't sure if it was for real but after reading the details it didn't seem like a joke. Very strange thing to lose and an even stranger thing to find.

F&M Bagels has a new roomie.

What's better than a fresh bagel with cream cheese on a lazy weekend morning? A fresh bagel with cream cheese and an Italian ice! F&M bagels on 383 Van Brunt (between Coffey St and Wolcott St) is now sharing a space with Uncle Louie Gees. The Italian ice chain used to be located at 414 Van Brunt so it's not a far move. It's still a great spot for ice cream and Italian ice. You can grab a bagel and an ice cup and walk down to the Valentino pier. Picnic season!

More Ice Cream!

With such a kid-friendly neighborhood there's no surprise that Bococa has so many ice cream shops. What is a little surprising is how many of these ice cream shops are geared more for the culinary-minded adults rather than the vanilla and sprinkle-loving children. Blue Marble was the first to open in the neighborhood serving up their ice cream with high quality ingredients. Since then Karloff's been scooping up their delicious cups and cones with unique flavors and local ingredients and the ever popular Van Leeuwun has also set up shop in the hood. Now you can add Steve's Ice Cream to the list. Taking over the old Blue Marble space on Atlantic and coming soon, Steve's original store was located in Somerville, Mass decades ago and was the first ever ice cream shop to incorporate mix-ins with their ice creams. Steve's shut down in the 90's but will be resurrected and improved here in Brooklyn. The ice creams and mix-ins will, of course, be made with the finest local ingredients and they will carry very refined flavors such as strawberry ricotta ice cream, kombucha sorbet, and coffee-cinnamon ice cream. Ice cream season is well on it's way! So grab your spoons and get ready for some scoops!
