Think Tank taking over Sweet Melissa's

Well, that didn't take long. Already a sign is up at the space that used to be Sweet Melissa's and the grand opening will be next weekend, April 14th and 15th. The new business is called Cobble Hill Think Tank. They'll have classes and individual tutoring for elementary, middle and high schoolers. They'll also have test preps, such as SAT prep. We haven't been able to find anything online about this new venture and from the looks of the place it seems like it's going to be very difficult to have up and ready in less than 2 weeeks. Also, is it going to be affordable? We have an awful lot of pricey tutoring businesses in the neighborhood. I guess all our questions will be answered soon enough. For now, we are just a little cranky perhaps because we miss Sweet Melissa's caramel banana cream pie tarts.

Closed on Court

We saw a couple of shops closed last Friday as we strolled down Court. 236 Court, which was a Deli and Grocery is now closed. Squashed between new restaurant Brucie and Sam's, a neighborhood staple, the grocery had been in that location for a while. Just beyond Sam's is another new restaurant Mooburger. Oh, how the neighborhood continues to change everyday.

The second shop we saw closed was Sweet Melissa's. No gasping yet. We were surprised when we saw the brown paper too (below) but you'll be happy to know that they were merely renovating last Friday and are now back open for business. It couldn't have been a lot of work that needed to be done since it was just Friday, so don't expect any major changes next time you visit.

Story Time at Sweet Melissa's

A restaurant/bakery seems like an unlikely place for a story time but also sounds like a good idea. Today at 3pm (and every Thursday in case this is too short notice) is story time with Anne at Sweet Melissa's on Court Street. It's not only a good idea for them to get customers into the shop but also sounds really nice for the patrons to sit down with tea and cake and listen to some storytelling. The best part is they encourage you to bring your own books so it's a story time that takes requests. They also mention that you can and should bring toys so it's just like a playgroup as well. For moms, dads, and caregivers looking for daytime activities that will get you out of the cold, this is perfect. It's right when school gets out so it might be a madhouse.
