New Liquor Store on Columbia.

With the Clockworks Puppet Theater out of the space for a while now, 196 Columbia has opened up with a new tenant.  It's a wine and liquor store.  It's been having it's grand opening for the last week or so.  We were definitely sad to see something like the puppet theater (such a unique and creative place) go but hopefully these new tenants will do well here!

Dry Dock Deals.

A great thing you can do for the community of Red Hook is shop for the holidays at the local businesses, most of whom were affected during Sandy and are trying to recuperate.  Many are getting back on their feet and ready for customers during this very important shopping season.  Dry Dock is offering a great deal.  Many bottles of wine were damaged (as in the labels) but are still perfectly drinkable and they are offering 20% off for those and 10% off of the damaged spirits and sparkling wines.  Stock up for your holiday parties and reinvigorate Red Hook's economy.

Goodbye Plexiglass!

Ruben Liquor Store has been in the neighborhood, on Court street and the corner of Baltic, for 34 years. They had some problems back in the seventies which made them put up plexiglass to protect themselves and their merchandise. Much like New York itself, the area has changed drastically since then and Ruben is now ready to change as well. The store, although some plexiglass is still up between 9pm and midnight, is undergoing renovations and customers will be able to walk around freely and browse the liquor and wine selections. Although the regulars weren't dissuadeed by the glass the owners are hoping this will attract new customers with a more welcoming atmosphere. They will be opening back up in August so if you've been in there before and were put off by not being able to browse for yourself go check out their new look!

Tuesday Night Recession Specials: For Those of You Who Are Thirsty. . . .

Stop on in this Atlantic Ave. fave for a pint of your favorite brew. All Drafts (incl. cask ales) are only $3.75 all day/night!

3. $5 PBR and Jim Beam Shot at Canal Bar

Canal Bar is located on the 3rd avenue stretch of new-ish bars and restaurants in the ever-gentrifying Gowanus area of Brooklyn, steps away from the infamous canal. And I mean really, who doesn't want a shot of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey to wash down their can of PBR on a Tuesday? Sounds like an amazing recession special to me!
