YMCA Winter Wonderland Pics.

Here are a few photos from the YMCA Winter Wonderland event from earlier this week.  They had a really big turn out, even more than the pictures captured.  All the kids had a great time.  As you can see they set up an arts and crafts section, an obstacle course area, and had a giant penguin come take photos with all the kids.  More importantly the event was to raise funds for the strong kids campaign, which is "focused on raising much needed financial support for children, teens and families who are unable to afford the full cost of participation in a YMCA program or activity". 

Winter Festival in Red Hook?

There was a great blog about Red Hook's small business community on Grubstreet a few days ago and while reading through the stories, mostly of community members coming together to help one another out, but also of the difficulties owners have faced and some are still facing in reopening their businesses, we couldn't help but feel heartbroken all over again.  We've written a couple of blogs about how now more than ever people should be flocking to Red Hook instead of staying distant.  In this Grubstreet blog we read something about a possible winter festival in the works for Red Hook and thought "What a great idea!".  We haven't been able to find any more info than this small mention so we assume it's in the early stage of development but we'll definitely keep you updated as we get news.  Until then please tell everyone you know, "Come out to Red Hook, go shopping, have lunch/dinner. get some drinks!!!"

Winter Festival

It's getting colder towards the end of this week and will be gin to feel a little more wintery. Let's celebrate by eating lots, drinking lots, and dancing! Only for the sake of keeping warm, of course. The most important part to keep warm and cozy is your heart (please excuse the cheese factor). You can keep warm, inside and out, by giving to this charitable cause. The Gowanus Canal Conservancy will be hosting a winter festival on Saturday, December 3rd at 69 9th Street (between 2nd ave and the canal). From 6:30-midnight indulge in a three-course meal, drinks, and live music, and all for a good cause! Tickets for the event and a conservancy membership are $60, event only $40, and concert only (which begins at 9pm) are $15. If you're already a member you can buy up to 10 tickets for a discount of $30 each. Let's help clean up the Gowanus Canal and have fun while doing it!
