Free Dance Class Intros for Kids.

This is pretty cool.  Dancewave, located in Boerum Hill at 45 4th Ave, is having an open house that includes free trial classes.  This introductory period runs from September 4th-7th.  They have all different types of classes for ages between toddler and teen.  Check it out if you're looking for an extra curricular for your child.

There's a Snake in the Library!

Here's a great free event for children that you should put on your calendar!  It's called "Erik's Reptile Edventures", (not sure if the misspelling of that last word is supposed to mean something or is simply a typo?)  At 1:30pm on August 20th, which falls on a Tuesday, the Carroll Gardens Library will be full of reptiles and amphibians.  Children will learn about these creatures and be able to handle them also.  Some of the animals on the list are Snakes, Lizards, Turtles, Frogs and Salamanders.  Pretty cool!

Toy Museum on Smith!

The Toy Museum of NY is now located at 180 Smith Street.  This place looks really cute and perfect for the family neighborhood.  They not only have the museum part of the space but they also have classes, including a theater class, plays, and birthday parties.  Although, they were said to have moved in a couple of months ago, a lot of people in the neighborhood weren't aware, probably because they have a second floor space above Ecopolis Cafe.  Well their signs are out and we'll be visiting soon!

Kids Classes at the YMCA

We recently visited the Dodge YMCA for their Little Lions Festival to celebrate the Chinese New Year with children under 4. It was open to the public and they had a great showing. There was music, arts and crafts, an obstacle course set up, snacks, and lots and lots of toddlers enjoying themsleves. While we were there we checked out some of their literature on their programs. They have wonderful classes for babies and children of all ages. Some include tumbling, water or swimming, and ballet but they have many more to choose from at really modest prices, $110 for members for most once a week classes for the 8 week session or $170 if you aren't a member. Compared to similar classes in the area and that's a really good deal. We're letting you know now because registration is almost over. The sessions begin at the end of February. You can see more on their website.

Rock' Cool

While we're on the subject of very unique classes for children (yesterday's blog was about interesting art classes, such as fantasy art and abstract, at Muriel Guepin Gallery) we thought we'd let you know about another school we heard of in the area. This school, or rather scool, is called Rock's Cool. We're assuming this is a play on words to say rock school. We don't have too much information because the website doesn't seem to be up yet but you can get more info by emailing mingo.tull@gmail.com or calling 718-596-4962. The classes are at 177 Smith Street, which is that new music store that specializes in piano repairs and restoration. They offer private classes as well as ensemble and teach all the instruments you'd need to form an awesome rock band, such as guitar, bass, drums, horns. They also have voice lessons. So, if this interests you, call email, or pop into the music store to find out about enrollment.

Children's Art Classes

We were very excited to learn that Muriel Guepin Gallery has art classes for children. We love this gallery and after picking up a brochure and browsing it we found that the classes they are offering are just as unique as the gallery itself. These sessions, which include learning different ways to create animals in their animal kingdom class, fantasy art, animation, and a class called "having fun with abstraction" are specialized for certain ages groups. In all, they have classes for 2 year olds to teens. Winter session starts on Jan 9th so enrollment is going on now. You can check out their website here for more classes and info on enrollment.
