Funds will support PortSide programming this summer and more. We are getting a permit to be in Atlantic Basin from July 1 to Aug 24, and we have been invited to bring the Mary A. Whalen to some other piers. Offering free programming in Atlantic Basin costs us.  In addition to the cost of the programs themselves, our permit for Atlantic Basin requires that we get new additional types of insurance (cost about $8,000) and security cameras and recording devices (costs being assessed).   PortSide NewYork is a young, innovative 501(c)3 organization.  PortSide was launched in 2005 to engage with a major movement of our time, the re-planning of NYC's waterfront.  Our mission is to create better use of what we call the BlueSpace, the water itself. We also revitalize our home community, the peninsula of Red Hook, Brooklyn, with waterfront-themed programs. Last year, PortSide was sole-sourced by New York City's Economic Development Corporation (the EDC) to create a maritime hub and cultural center in Atlantic Basin, Brooklyn.  Our chief ambassador is a 172' repurposed coastal oil tanker the Mary A.
