New Liquor Store on Columbia.

With the Clockworks Puppet Theater out of the space for a while now, 196 Columbia has opened up with a new tenant.  It's a wine and liquor store.  It's been having it's grand opening for the last week or so.  We were definitely sad to see something like the puppet theater (such a unique and creative place) go but hopefully these new tenants will do well here!

The last some of you may have heard about the Clockworks Puppet Theater at 196 Columbia Street they were raising funds to stay afloat back in October.  Well, they are no longer at that space and we were sad to see them go. They really were a great and unique addition to the neighborhood.  We've just gotten word from the lovely Mary Gaglio that a liquor store will be opening up next at that spot.  More to come when they've opened.

Puppeteer classes!

There is no shortage of kids classes in the neighborhood. From ballet to karate you've got all the usual classes to choose from and plenty of options within those options. How about something a little different, like puppeteering!!! The Clockworks Puppet Theater, at 196 Columbia, is having a week long workshop for ages 7-15. Not only will your kids being learning to build puppets and perform with them, the big pay off will be a performance at the ened of the week! More info below.

GOH Productions Presents...

We've blogged about the puppet theater at 196 Columbia Street before but here's a show At the Clock Works that incorporates every holiday of the season in one spectacular marionette performance. It's called A Christmas Carol, Oy Hanukkah, Merry Kwanzaa, Happy Ramadan and it's being staged by The Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for children and you can find them on smarttix.com. They say the event is suitable for ages 5-105. Sorry 106 year olds, you didn't make the cut. Show dates, which begin this Thursday, and times are listed below.

Clockworks

You know what this neighborhood needed that it had been missing before? No, not another pizzeria or dry cleaners. A puppet theater of course! Lucky for us one just opened at 196 Columbia Street! Unfortunately we missed last weekends big grand opening events, "The Blessing of the Wheel", a sidewalk spectacle on Saturday and a children's May Day party on Sunday. I'm sure there will me more where that came from. The new space, called The Clockworks Puppet Theatre, has an old timey magical feel to it. Check out there website, it's very interesting. One thing that especially caught our eye was that they use recycled trash for their sets and costumes. Read up on their history, their manifesto, and keep checking in to find out about their upcoming events.
