Calling all volunteers!

Yesterday we blogged about our role in GO Brooklyn.  We found out today that you can become involved too!  They need volunteers that weekend to help run the Neighborhood Information Table.  Basically what you'd be doing is hanging at a table at 61 local "surrounded by good food, drink, and local folks... giving out maps, helping people to register to vote, etc.  And handing out free Tattly (temp) tattoos!"  Does that sound like something you'd be interested in.  Then read more below about times and contact info.

GO at Brooklyn Museum

 

We recently heard of this "community curated open studio project" from the Brooklyn Museum.  Unfortunately we are sharing too late for artists to register, which was supposed to have ended on June 29th.  The first phase of the project, however, will begin in early September and we thought we'd get the word out about that.  Here's more info below along with their website in case you want to read more about it.

GO is a new project from the Brooklyn Museum, taking place in neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn. During GO, Brooklyn-based artists are asked to open their studios to the community on September 8-9, 2012. Community members registered as voters will visit studios and nominate artists for inclusion in a group exhibition to open at the Museum on Target First Saturday, December 1, 2012.  www.gobrooklynart.org

Target First Saturdays @ Brooklyn Museum

This Saturday is the monthly event, which includes music, discussions, workshops, a book club, fashion showcase, and dance party all in one place. And of course you can and should check out the museum with a guided tour that starts at 8pm. The whole night is from 5-11pm and, as always, is free and open to the public. If you haven't been to this event you should really check it out. It's a fun time, especially the dance party, which is from 8pm-10pm. There's so much going on in such a short time. You can check out their website for more info, but to name a couple of performances that piqued our interest: 5-7 pm Game Rebellion plays metal, punk and hip-hop and 6:30-8pm Renegade Performance Group gives pop-up dances inspired by Question Bridge.
