YMCA Winter Wonderland Pics.

Here are a few photos from the YMCA Winter Wonderland event from earlier this week.  They had a really big turn out, even more than the pictures captured.  All the kids had a great time.  As you can see they set up an arts and crafts section, an obstacle course area, and had a giant penguin come take photos with all the kids.  More importantly the event was to raise funds for the strong kids campaign, which is "focused on raising much needed financial support for children, teens and families who are unable to afford the full cost of participation in a YMCA program or activity". 

Kidville Coming Soon.

Kidville is opening up at 380 Court street soon.  We don't know an exact date but the website allows you to sign up for fall classes in early September so it's probably pretty soon.  The place has lots of different classes for ages 0-6 that parents or caregivers attend with children or they have a drop off preschool for 2 and 3 year olds.  As you can imagine it's pretty pricey, about $2500 per 16 week semester for a two class a week schedule.  They will also have a play space, or "indoor playground" that people can join.  Good for the winter months.  This is just one in a number of Kidvilles around New York.  They have one in Park Slope and a handful in Manhattan.

Kite Festival!

Here's an activity that sounds like it would be fun to participate in or even just watch. Brooklyn Kite Festival 2011 will be held at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 1 on August 13th between 11am and 3pm. You can bring your own kite or make one there! There will be free kite-making supplies (first come first serve) and even instructional workshops. There will also be food, of course. Ice cream has definitely been promised.
