Music in Cobble Hill Park.

There are two more opportunities this summer to see performances in the Cobble Hill Park music series.  One is coming up this week, August 8th, 17-year-old folk artist Nadim Silverman.  And Adam Smale's Jazz Quartet will be performing the following Thursday, August 15th.  Both begin at 7pm.  It's a beautiful park and wonderful that they have these free summer concerts. 

Go Dancing at the Park Tonight!

You may have missed the kick off of Celebrate Brooklyn! Dance Parties last Thursday but if you feel like dancing tonight you are in luck because this series is still going on and tonight is the night.  Meet up is at 7pm on Pier 1 of the Brooklyn Bridge Park and it's free. Tonight is Afro-Cuban night with Pedrito Martinez and DJ Nickodemus.  Read more about the duo below. Alos get there at the beginning for free dance lessons.

Havana-born vocalist and percussionist Pedrito Martinez leads a small band with a big sound, featuring Ariacne Trujillo and special guest Luis Sanchez-Faife (Alto Sax). Lauded as “an incomparable performer” by The New York Times, Martinez’s unmatched work on the congas anchors the band’s fresh, hip-shakin’ beats. From downtown to uptown, he keeps audiences dancing with his “quick hands [and] a voice like lightning” (Wall Street Journal). DJ Nickodemus, of Turntables On The Hudson fame, will also be on hand to spice up the East River with his universal dance sounds.

Metro Chamber Orchestra Finale This Weekend.

We blogged yesterday about an event happening at Christ Church of Cobble Hill this Saturday.  Here's another event happening at a beautiful neighborhood cathedral the same night.  Metro Chamber Orchestra will be performing Beethoven's Ninth in this season finale concert at St. Ann and the Holy Trinity, 157 Montague.  It's really a beautiful building, as you can see especially in the below photo and the interior is just as lovely.  A great setting for a concert like this for both ambiance and acoustics.  Tickets are $25 and you can purchase them here.

Carter Family Project.

The Carter family has been said to have given birth to modern country music back in the late 20's.  Cobble Hill couple, Leigh Anderson and Fran Leadon, have been recording and reenacting the songs from the famous family (you'd be most familiar with June Carter but this all started before she was even born) in their living room. Leadon and Anderson will be bringing these tunes, which hope to conjure the sound and spirit of this great music, to Jalopy Theater tomorrow night at 8pm. It's free!!
