Restaurants at 268 Clinton have had bad runs. The last, Breuckelen, has been closed for a while now and before that was Cafe on Clinton. It's such a great little space on a very cute corner. Well, that cute space will soon have another restaurant to fill it, and hopefully break the unlucky streak. La Vara is a Spanish restaurant that, according to the owner "celebrates the Jewish and Moorish legacy in Spanish cooking". Owner/chefs also own a restaurant in Chelsea called Txikito. You can check out there menu here. It may hold a key to what you can expect in the new restaurant. We don't have any further info, except they have applied for a liquor license so expect a full bar and some very original menu options.
