New York Century Bike Tour.

Your Googa Mooga Experience.

We've been hearing mixed reviews about The Great Googa Mooga Festival, the enormous food and music festival last weekend at Prospect Park.  Some people loved it but most of the people we talked to had an array of complaints.  The prices apparently were higher than expected for many.  It was the long lines for food and drinks, though, that we heard over and over and being unbearable.  There were tens of thousands slated to attend so we knew there would be lines but a lot were saying there just weren't enough vendors to accommodate.  We'd love to hear what you have to add, whether good or bad.  Please comment and share your experience!

Watch some birds..not angry ones.

We're always amazed, though not too surprised, at how many cool events and happenings go on in our wonderful borough of Brooklyn.  Here's one for you animal, particularly the feathered kind, lovers.  This Saturday, May 26th, head over to the Audubon Center at Prospect Park for an introduction to bird watching tour.  There are 250 species of birds at the park and you can learn about them all, though maybe not in one day.  Good thing this event happens every Saturday between 12pm and 1:30pm!

Save the Prospect Park West Bike Lane!

Ever since the creation of the bike lane on Prospect Park West last year, it has been under attack. Mostly from people living nearby who think its unsightly for some reason. In Fact, Neighbors for Better Bike Lanes, the oragnization formed by those who oppose the new bike lane, has hired a law firm to bring a law suit against the city to try to remove the lane. I use it regularly and think it is a great addition to the already very bike friendly Park Slope. Plus taking one lane out of Prospect Park West seemed to reduce the speeding and other wreckless driving on that street. Now, rather than a big four lane speedway, its now just a normal park side drive, which is nice for pedestrians.

If you are a fellow supporter of the Prospect Park West bike lane, come ride it this Sunday April 10th, starting at 11am. Everyone is invited to bike or walk the lane starting from Grand Army Plaza to the Bartel-Pritchard entrance of Prospect Park at 15th Street to show support for the bike lane. At the end of the ride you can look foward to Free hot dogs from Bark, cupcakes from Blue Sky Bakery and more goodies from bike shop sponsors Bicycle Habitat and Ride Brooklyn. For more info check out the website at http://weridethelanes.com/

Moonlight Bike Ride!

Although this next event is not really on Valentine's Day and it actually happens every month, I had to include it in this week's Valentine's to-do list because it's just so damned romantic.

The second Saturday of every month, which means this Saturday, February 12th at 9pm, you and your sweetie, along with a group of strangers, can take a moonlit bike ride through Prospect Park. The group visits different landmarks around the park and touts that it is a "safe, peaceful ride that visits many of the little-known treasures the park has to offer". What a perfect way to start this weekend of romance. Meet up at 8:45 at Grand Army Plaza, unless it's raining, although snow is okay. Skilled skaters are also welcome and all are encouraged to have lights because the ride can get very dark. (Oo la la!)
