New Signage at Old Athena.

213 Smith Street used to be the Athena restaurant.  The Greek restaurant was never really crowded and unfortunately very short-lived.  The new sign we saw, as you can see above, is for something called Hunter's Brooklyn.  We can't seem to find anything online about this place.  We can only speculate.  Is it a restaurant that serves interesting game?  Is it an arcade filled with Big Buck Hunter?  Only time will tell.  If anyone has the scoop, please share!

Van Horn Now Open

Van Horn Sandwich Shop is open and doing very well from the looks of the crowd that stood just past the unassuming entrance waiting to be seated this afternoon. Owner, Jacob Van Horn, is from North Carolina and brings this southern inspiration to the simple dishes served up at this 30 seater restuarant. They have sandwiches (Fried Chicken, Fish, Pimento Cheese to name a few), really comforting sides like mac and cheese and hush puppies, and a short but really great beer list, which is listed below due to it's awesomeness.

Van Horn, 231 Court Street, is open for lunch and dinner from 11AM-11PM. Check back in a few weeks to see if they're doing breakfast.

Beer on Tap
Liquid Gold 7
Kelso St. Gowanus 7
Kelso Pilsner 6
Goffel Kolsch 6
Blue Point Toasted Lager 7
Six Point Diesel Porter 6
Six Point Sweet Action 7
Big Daddy IPA 6

From Laundromat to Restaurant

Previously the V&F Laundromat at 410 Court Street in Carroll Gardens, this space is undergoing a major renovation and being turned into a restaurant. Not really sure what type of restaurant. We were told "fast food" by one of the guys working on the place but that seems a little vague. We heard that it's owned by the same owners as the Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins around the corner, so fast food makes sense. Whatever it is, it's going to be big. The space looks nearly the size of the CVS across the street. It looks like there is a lot of work to still be done so I guess we'll have to be patient to find out. Unless anyone out there who's in the know would like to share this info with us?

Grand Opening of Athena Restaurant

It's hard to miss all the colorful "grand opening" flags and signs when you walk by the Athena Mediterranean restaurant in Cobble Hill. While walking by something may catch your eye...besides all those gaudy flags. The sign outside says "Belly Dancing Every Thursday Night". We were just thinking that this neighborhood desperately needed some belly dancing and it has arrived..haha. It does sound pretty cool. Definitely unique. We didn't see the inside but it seems to be both a restaurant and bar/lounge. There is a back room lounge complete with white leather seating where it would be easy to imagine people hanging out in drinking Cosmopolitans under neon or black lights.

So, if you want a gyro, a drink, or to ogle some bare bellies head over to 213 Smith Street.
