PS 29 Carnival

May 31st, this Friday, between 5pm and 8pm PS 29 is throwing a carnival celebration in it's schoolyard to welcome a new principal, Dr. Rebecca Fagin.  The amount of activities at this shindig are too many to list.  You'll probably be able to make them out on the flyer above.  Just know they'll have all the normal festivities, such as face painting and bouncy houses, plus a whole bunch of more unique activities such as a hair coloring station, hacky sack demonstration, and a fortune teller.  And food, of course, BBQ and snacks.  Should be a good time!

We Voted!

Did you get out to vote yesterday?  The picture above is of an hour long line at PS29 yesterday.  Other election sites were far less crowded and depending on what district you were in you could have waited a while or been in and out.  Some poll sites had to be changed due to Sandy.  Add to that the fact that earlier this year district lines were redraw there was a lot of confusion here in Brooklyn.  Still, people were very patient where we were and people definitely came out to vote.

Bake Sale Tomorrow Morning!

PS 29 is having a bake sale tomorrow between 6:15AM and 9PM. So, this being election day, if you were planning on and are zoned to go down there to vote you may want to pick up some brownies or cookies to help support the elementary school while you're at it. Even if you're not zoned to vote there...hey, it's baked goods! What other excuse do you need to take a walk over there? PS 29 is located on Henry Street on the corner of Kane and the bake sale will be going on in the lobby. Come on come all. Bring your friends and bring your sweet teeth!

PS 29's new look

PS 29's playground has been through a lot recently. While the playground is still in the process of being rebuilt, the courtyard area has had a facelift. The large open space has now been painted into a baseball diamond, although there are still basketball hoops hung and kids can play that as well in the area. The space nearest the school has also been painted. Five circles, each with different games in the middle, including the elementary school staple hopscotch. The kids must love this make over, both PS 29's students as well as the public, who get to enjoy this park after school hours!

Kids Concerts

We let you know about some great kids programs at Carroll Gardens library last week. Here are some more fun things to do with kids this summer and beyond.

PS 29 and Friends of Carroll Park bring you the kids summer concert series. On July 27th you can enjoy children's music band Starfish, Karen K and the Jitterbugs will perform August 17th and Bubble do Beatles are having a show on September 25th.

All performances start at 4pm at Carroll Park. There will be refreshments beginning at 3:30. No rain dates mentioned.

Lost and Found

We've come across a couple of really cute posters within the last few weeks and we wanted to share them with you. One (seen above) was posted outside of PS 29 and it's asking for your help to find a lost baby blue bear blanket that was lost last month at the school yard. Call that number listed if you know anything. The next poster (below) we saw in Blue Marble's window on Court Street. Apparently the found a baby tooth on their counter? We weren't sure if it was for real but after reading the details it didn't seem like a joke. Very strange thing to lose and an even stranger thing to find.

Eat Pie and Shop!

On December 5th from 11-5 there will be a pie social and holiday gift fair at PS 29 on Henry and Baltic. All proceeds help support the school. Not only can you eat pie, of several varieties, but you can either watch or maybe even join in on eating pie competitively. Yup, a pie eating contest! The panel consists of several celebrity judges, including Brooklyn Borough Prez Marty Markowitz. The contest starts at 1pm.

So, although you may have had your fill of pie and shopping after Thanksgiving and Black Friday (who's kidding who, you can never have enough pie), it's time to break out the wallets and your appetite one more time..for charity of course.
