New Bakery Coming to Degraw.

Sadie's Kitchen, the short lived southern food take out restaurant, has been closed for a while now and we've been wondering what would become of the space at 243 Degraw.  Walking by the other day, we saw someone working on the place and he told us it's going to be a bakery.  Poppy's will be part bakery and part catering service, which is a perfect business for this cozy spot.  We can never have too many sweets! Bring it!

Sadie's Kitchen Once More.

Okay, I know we've written a couple of blogs about this new restaurant already but we've finally gotten a chance to visit and taste and the verdict is a delicious one. We like to keep you updated so hear it is. Yes, the menu is mostly mac-n-cheese but the variety is incredible. From shitaki mac with brie and truffle bread crumbs to buttered lobster mac with fontina and herb bread crumbs to kielbasa and gorgonzola mac with brussel sprouts. Everything sounds unique and extremely mouth-watering. It doesn't disappoint either. They do have a handful of equally unique biscuit sandwiches if the former isn't up your alley. Fried catfish, jalapeno jack, slaw and pickled okra tartar is one. Another is made with bbq duck, spicy plum sauce, arugula and brinjal chutney. Anyways, we can list off the whole menu but you can just pick one up for yourself. We're making ourselves too hungry with all these descriptions anyways. They started delivery service at the beginning of the week so if need to change things up with your delivery repatoire this is a good option. Mac keeps well when traveling. Oh, we almost forgot the pies! Shoo fly, pumpkin spice, and more for $20 each. You may still be able to order one or two for tomorrow. Check them out.

Another TV show shooting

On Degraw and Henry street in Carroll Gardens the TV show "Over/Under", which is still listed as in development, will be shooting according to this sign we saw posted. The shoot date is listed as Wednesday, tomorrow, between 6am and 11pm. We couldn't find out much info on this show on IMDB but we did find a synopsis on tv.com and it's as follows. "A day trader is fired from his job due to his serious gambling problem that has cost his company millions of dollars. He moves to a new neighborhood with his wife and finds a surprising new path that will help him rebuild his life." What the "surprising new path" is is anyone's guess but maybe if you catch them shooting a scene or two you can find out.

New Restaurant on Degraw.

There has been some work going on at 243 Degraw Street, formerly occupied by Ultimate Burgers and Dogs restaurant, for a little while. The new place will be called Sadie's Kitchen and, although it seemed like things weren't moving too fast, one day this new awning popped up and we realized that whatever has been going on over there is almost done, complete with a cute exterior (window boxes filled with fresh flowers and a bench to the left of the entrance). Although the windows are still soaped up we caught a quick glimpse by peeking in and saw that the inside is as adorable as the outside. It has a very 1950's diner vibe. We don't know what they'll be serving but if we had to guess by the decor and name we'd say comfort food? Has anyone seen the menu?
