180 Smith Street.

We walked by this sign a little while back.  It's the sign for the new (coming soon?) establishment that's taking over the space at 180 Smith, which used to be Ecropolis.  This place also seems like it will be a coffee shop of sorts.  The sign is strange, though.  Dough...okay that sounds good, bread and pastries...coffee...yummy...aroma...makes sense...roogel...huh?  It seems clear that the picture at the bottom of that phrase is rugala but we've never seen or heard this spelling/pronunciation.  It looks like the cafe itself might have that word in it's name because we've found two trademarks "Get Ready to Roogel" and "Let's Roogle".  Has anyone ever seen this delicious sweet spelled "roogel" or is this new?

New Bakery Coming to Degraw.

Sadie's Kitchen, the short lived southern food take out restaurant, has been closed for a while now and we've been wondering what would become of the space at 243 Degraw.  Walking by the other day, we saw someone working on the place and he told us it's going to be a bakery.  Poppy's will be part bakery and part catering service, which is a perfect business for this cozy spot.  We can never have too many sweets! Bring it!

Court Street Grocers Revisited

Alright we've already blogged about the delicious Court Street Grocers, but we really can't get enough. If you haven't gone over their for a sandwich you really need to. Although they have a lot of veggie options, including two veggie loafs (one made of chick peas and one made of lentils and grains) it's they're meat that's really worth the trip over there. The last couple of Sundays they've had special sandwiches. On May 12th they tweeted "Secret 'eat in only' sandwich coming this Sunday! Ask for it!" and posted the picture linked below. If you're squeamish or vegetarian, I wouldn't click on it. Turns out they made a suckling pig porchetta sandwich. Yesterday's special? "The H, D, L: Braised shredded duck leg, duck liver pate, honey roasted duck breast, cukes, pickled ginger and carrots, and some cilantro on baguette!" Special is right!
