PortSide NY Dinner, Tickets on Sale Now!

We blogged about the PortSide NY fundraiser dinner last week and we now have more news.  Tickets are now available for this July 30th event.  If you'd like to buy tickets click here! This event will begin at 6:30 at Fort Defiance, 365 Van Brunt Street. More info is below!

Save the date for this event! July 30th, which falls on a Tuesday, PortSide NY will be having a fundraising event at Fort Defiance, 365 Van Brunt. There will be more information coming so keep an eye out on either this blog or you can check their site. Also, if you hadn't already heard about them winning the White House award for their Sandy Recovery Efforts you can read more about that here. 

Sandy Survivor Gathering Reminder!

Along with sending out this reminder for the coming weekend's Sandy Survivor Gathering, which will be at 351 Van Brunt Street storefront between 4pm and 7pm June 30th, we wanted to let everyone know about the new webpage on the PortSide site.  Since we're hoping to make this a regular thing you can check this page for updates on future gatherings.  We hope to see you all there this Sunday.  Free cake and coffee!!

Sandy Survivor Get Together Reminder!!

Hey everyone we just wanted to send out a quick reminder about the get together this weekend (details below).  Join us along with PortSide New York and friends and neighbors who survived and came together as a community after Sandy hit the area six months ago.  We'll have cheese, crackers, coffee, cake (!!!) and good company!  Come on over!

Calling all Sandy survivors!  Come join us this Sunday, April 28th, to reconnect and eat cake! It'll be almost 6 months since Sandy hit us and brought both havoc and a spirit of togetherness and strength to our community.  We'd love to see you all there! April 29 will be the six month anniversary of hurricane Sandy. Many people in Red Hook talk about re‐finding that spirit of connectedness that supported us during the dark nights and muddy days after the storm.

PortSide NewYork and Realty Collective, the non‐profit organization and real estate brokerage which teamed up to create the Sandy aid center at 351 Van Brunt Street, are opening the doors again to bring people together. Here is our invitation to you. Please pass the word:

Dear Neighbor:
 
We are coming up on 6 months since Hurricane Sandy put Red Hook under 4 feet of water or more in some cases.
 
There was a great community spirit in the days after the storm when everyone was working together to recover. We are hosting an informal open house to hear how you are doing, reconnect and celebrate the resilience of Red Hook. It would be so great to see our friends and neighbors and reconnect.

Free cake, coffee and other beverages. We are looking to arrange some other food by event time.

PortSide New York is still auctioning.

Please show your support for PortSide New York.  Their pop-up museum at will be vacated on the 31st of August so you only have until the 30th to buy their waterfront artifacts and local art.  They are looking for a home for the MARY A. BBQ at PortSide PopUP

The grand opening of PortSide's PopUp mini-museum and gallery is this weekend, which coincides perfectly with fleet week.  They're having a backyard BBQ to celebrate and the neighborhood is invited.  Here's what they had to say about it:

We'd like to celebrate with a small circle of friends in BBQ party in the backyard of 145 Columbia Street on Monday 5/28 around 6:30pm and would like to invite you!

 

We'll cover the beer and wine. Please bring something for the grill, a side dish, or a dessert.

9/11 Exhibit

Next Thursday, the 8th of September from 6pm-9pm, a new exhibit about the maritime role in the 9/11 response will be opening. The exhibit takes place on the historic ship LILAC at Hudson River Park's Pier 25 (North Moore Street in Tribeca). Hours after the 8th for the month of September will be Thursdays from 12:00pm- 6:00pm and Saturdays from 1:00pm-6:00pm. This was included in the exhibit info that we received. "PortSide NewYork is mounting a multimedia exhibit (photography, videos and oral history) and a related talk about the extraordinarily successful and little-known maritime role in responding to 9/11, from evacuation to rubble removal. The exhibit is created in partnership with the Lilac Preservation Project." Also ways of supporting this exhibit are listed below.
